About AnaMaria Huibers

Marriage and Family Therapist

I’m AnaMaria, a bicultural, bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist born in Nicaragua and raised in San Francisco. For over 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals and families through various life stages and challenges. From providing support and coaching to children and parents, to helping teens navigate struggles of adolescence, to guiding women in the prime of life, and to empowering Latinas coping with the stress of navigating multiple cultures, my approach is always grounded in cultural sensitivity and emotional safety.

As a mother raising multicultural children, a wife, sister, and Latina woman, my personal journey navigating cultural expectations and family dynamics has deepened my understanding of how trauma and identity shape our lives.  This lived experience, combined with over two decades of professional practice, informs my compassionate and culturally sensitive approach.

I am grateful that I can do the work I love and feel so lucky to have found my calling. When I am not in my therapist role, I practice meditation and stay grounded in Buddhist philosophy, integrating mindfulness and compassion into both my personal life and therapeutic work. In my spare time I enjoy listening and dancing to Afro-Latino music, hosting dinners for friends and family, reading historical fiction, and taking long walks with my favorite girl, Lily the boxer.

is a Spanish word meaning “Breath" and it also carries the meaning of Encouragement and Support - the kind we offer one another in moments of struggle, connection and healing.

I named my practice Aliento to reflect my commitment to fostering a space where you can breathe deeply, feel encouraged, and find the support you need to heal and grow.
